BACK TO ‘LORDA
After the past few successful trips to Orlando, we decided third time’s the charm…and it definitely was. Flame spitting SVJs, cinematic e36 shots, and an invite to the grand opening of our friend’s exotics dealership in Tampa had us overflowing with content by the time we left. So much happened over the span of these five days, both the good and the bad, but here are the important highlights. We’ll also break down why we find these trips valuable and what you can take away from our experience if you’re on the fence about booking your own trip.
WHY FLORIDA?
If you hadn’t detected it by now…we’re a big fan of cars. Florida is home to one of the largest car scenes in the United States, mainly because of its consistently warm weather which allows events to run the entire year. This appeal, along with everything else Florida offers, has drawn in many of the top performing people around the country, who happen to own many of the exotic cars that we shoot content for. After our first couple of visits, we realized that the Florida car scene is one of the biggest untapped networking opportunities. Where there’s exotic cars, there’s successful owners. So, on a mission to build more relationships, we booked another trip. And this one was the best we’ve ever had to date…
IT WASN’T ALL SUNSHINE AND RAINBOWS…
Every good story starts with a low point. Our low point was the first day. After taking a late flight and landing in the middle of the night, we found ourselves out of shoots still. Imagine that…you spend hundreds of dollars on the hope that it’ll be worth it and one day in you’ve got nothing. You can imagine how we were feeling. But then, by some miracle, we got one “yes”. One of our connections agreed to a shoot that night, and everything just fell into place from there.
You see, the hardest part about doing this sort of work is trying not to appear to be a scammer, or some annoying person trying to milk you for your money. After all, there’s actual value in having professional content done for your brand or business. After getting one yes, we started getting a few more opportunities come in. In the span of 20 minutes we had three shoots lined up for that evening. After going through the details with the owners, we got our gear together and headed out to shoot.
We started off with @5.0_shorty, taking our time as we couldn’t have imagined how the rest of the night was going to go. From there, we booked it over to Icon Park where we met with @jamalpha to shoot his beautiful e36. With these two shoots done we were just about ready to call it a night, when all of a sudden Jamal mentioned bringing out a few more guys he knew. Not thinking much of it, we decided why not. We were still jetlagged from the night before but this is what we had flown out here for after all. We piled into the minivan and drove 30 mins away to Lake Nona, where our entire night changed. While we were petting the local cows, we heard the familiar scream of the SVJ v12 coming up…then another….and another. Moments later we were watching SVJs, a GT3rs, a widebody AMG GTR, G80s, and a lot more crazy builds.
THE NEXT 30 MINS WERE CRAZY
We booked it over to a local 711 and started firing shots right away. Our SD cards were filling within minutes as we tried to capture the variety of cars and the different interactions of all the owners. And that’s when we were approached about getting some rollers done…so while being on a livestream with 40k views, we planned out the details and got in the van. The next 20 miles were filled with incredible V12 sounds, flames, pops, bangs, and a whole lot of chaos. When we finally pulled off the exit and made a stop all of our hearts were racing, it didn’t seem like any of us were going to be able to sleep any time soon. After departing, we headed back to to the AirBNB to start offloading the content from the entire night.
TAMPA TIME
The next day it was off to Tampa to meet back up with a good friend of ours, Eric Dill, to celebrate the grand opening of @oneexoticstampa. Here we were able to check out some cool whips, like a Liberty Walk Widebody Lamborghini Huracan Performante, Dodge Viper ACRs, Ferraris, Mclarens, the list goes on.
As we were leaving, we wanted to spend a bit more time in Tampa since we didn’t get the chance during our earlier content creation trip at the beginning of summer. So we made a call and set up another shoot. Just like that, last minute. So we picked out a spot and snuck in a gorgeous sunset.
After our little venture out to Tampa, we spent our last day in Orlando meeting back up with a few friends from our first day in Florida. We spent the morning enjoying a Cars and Coffee and even got the chance to meet up with yet another friend, the founder of @daizzy.co, grabbing a sample shirt from their new fall collection (releasing soon, be on the lookout!). After heading back and editing for a few more hours, we spent the final night of our trip shooting @modmaxsupra in the stormy Orlando weather.
Wrapping up + Message
Although this trip certainly went by fast, we were able to make a big impression this time around, coming into contact with people like @myexoticars, @caioaraujo, and @jamalpha. And that was the most important part of this trip. You see, the point of taking these excursions was to expand our network and get our names out in the world of automotive content creation. If there’s anything we’ve learned over the course of doing this kind of work, it’s that this industry is a who knows who game. And your reputation is extremely important, as it will precede you the more talented you become. The idea that there’s no work that exists to be done, no things to take photos of, is an illusion. Meet the right people and opportunities will come to you. So was it worth it to pay hundreds of dollars to come into personal contact with SVJ owners…honestly yes—yes it was. And you shouldn’t be afraid to either. Life is kind of funny in that sense. When you’re willing to put a little bit of yourself on the line, take a bit of risk, the reward waiting for you could be tenfold. All you have to do is have a little faith.
